Abstract The low pH water is produced by a natural process, in which percolation water aerobic a substrate containing active iron sulfide and promotes the development of specific such as bacteria Thiobacillus ferrooxidans Thibacillus and Thioooxidans. The purpose of this paper is to make a critical analysis of the methods that could be applied in the case of acid drainage from closed mines or abandoned in America and certain recommendations on those passive methods that seem more promising, the involvement of the industry in which It is called, in general, treatment of environmental liabilities and some disquisitions on saving resources through the recovery of materials.
