Abstract This  article  seeks  to  determine  the  relationship  that  exists  between  strategic  thinking  and learning skills in a sample of University students of Education from a National University of San Marcos, Lima - Peru. A descriptive correlational design was used, with a sample of 285 students corresponding to five academic cycles, to whom the following evaluation instruments were applied: the questionnaire on thinking skills by Alberto Acevedo and Marcela Carrera and the inventory of strategic learning by Manuel Towers. The instruments were subjected to statistical analysis, making it known that they were valid and reliable. The results obtained indicate that thinking skills are significantly related to strategic learning in the sample of students (r = 0.85). Furthermore; the results obtained reveal that all the dimensions corresponding to thinking skills are related to all the dimensions corresponding to strategic learning, too.

Palabras clave : Thinking skills; strategic learning; intellectual capacity; Academic performance.
