CABELLO, Alejandra; ORTIZ, Edgar y SOSA, Miriam. Growing Importance of the BRICS on the Global Financial Governance and the Economy. Oikos Polis [online]. 2021, vol.6, n.1, pp.134-184. Epub 30-Jun-2021. ISSN 2521-960X.
This work analyses the growing role of those in Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa (BRICS) in terms of their participation in global governance and the economy. Governance dilemmas and problems are reviewed, highlighting important changes in its architecture and the emergence of new global financial governance patterns due to the progressive role of BRICS. It examines its growing economic importance in the context of new patterns of economic and financial development that challenge the traditional Western industrialized economies hegemony; the South-South Cooperation scheme; the nascent financial architecture in terms of its banking and stock markets; BRICS initiatives to promote their development and encourage the development of emerging economies, manifested in their Summits and the creation of new development institutions and conventions; and, finally, the challenges and changes towards multipolarity in global financial governance.
