Abstract

VIVAS-CARMONA, Luis Enrique  and  ASTUDILLO-GARCIA, Dilcia Herminia. Four spider species (Arachnida: Araneae) related to rice plants in Calabozo Guárico State, Venezuela. J. Selva Andina Biosph. [online]. 2017, vol.5, n.2, pp.116-123. ISSN 2308-3859.

Four new spider species related to rice plants in the central areas, Calabozo City, Guárico, Venezuela are presented. The species are Tetragnatha nitens, Tetragnatha pallescens, Tetragnatha vermiformis and Argiope trifasciata. Data on spiders geographic distribution, population fluctuation, biology and insects species they consume in rice plantings is presented. The species T. pallescens and T. vermiformis represent new records for the country and for the area in America. These arachnids are an excellent method of natural control of pests to rice cultivation.
