Abstract

MAMANI SANCHEZ, Beatriz; AGUILAR FRANCO, Fernando; NOVA PINEDO, Máximo  and  DAZA KUCHARSKY, Antonio. Diagnosis of water quality for human consumption in the communities Carmen Pampa and Chovacollo in Coroico - Bolivia. RevActaNova. [online]. 2022, vol.10, n.4, pp.443-460.  Epub Nov 31, 2022. ISSN 1683-0789.

Water is an essential resource for life and each country has policies aimed at providing a satisfactory, sufficient, safe, accessible, and quality supply for the inhabitants, and with an orientation towards the conservation of water bodies for the functioning of the ecosystem. For this, there are regulations, as is the special case of NB 512 oriented for the consumption of drinking water. In this sense, the objective of this work was to diagnose the quality of water for human consumption in Carmen Pampa and Chovacollo based on physicochemical and bacteriological parameters. Sampling of both communities was carried out in a water supply system (intake, tank, and tap) and pH, EC, DO, turbidity and fecal coliforms (E. coli) were evaluated.

The results of the water analysis in Carmen Pampa and Chavacollo in the intake, tank and tap, the pH values are between 6.78 to 7.57; EC between 27.5 to 28.27 μS/cm, however, in the Chovacollo tank it was 43.06 μS/cm and DO between 98.7 to 104.3% and turbidity between 0.14 to 1.81 NTU. E coli, of the 6 sampling points, was 0 in 4, except in the Chovacollo tank (28 CFU) and the Carmen Pampa intake (14 CFU). The parameters are below the level allowed by NB-512, except for the biological parameter at one point. The two communities do not carry out the chlorination treatment and it is recommended that the water be boiled prior to consumption. According to the classification of water bodies, its suitability for use is classified as class A (highest quality water, authorized as drinking water for human consumption, prior to bacteriological disinfection before consumption).
