LOZADA GOBILARD, Lucas Blitz  y  RAMIREZ-AVILA, Gonzalo Marcelo. Experimental study of a rotating hoop: new evidence of mass independence and equi-probability of the equilibrium point. Revista Boliviana de Física [online]. 2019, vol.35, n.35, pp.15-23. ISSN 1562-3823.

Abstract This study presents the results and analysis of an experimental assembly devised by the authors to create a nonlinear mechanical system that obtains relevant data associated with the bifurcation phenomenon. The results of the experiment led to the generation of bifurca-tion diagrams related to the control parameter, and supports significant existing theoretical evidence. This empirical base permits us to corroborate the independence of the mass in the motion equations and verify the equi-probable nature of the system, in terms of stability at the new equilibrium points. These results refute repeated assertions by nonlinear dynamics textbooks for the case of one sphere. The data were obtained from the following experiments: (i) a sphere in air (ii) a sphere submerged in three other different fluids separately, (iii) sev-eral spheres in air and (iv) several spheres submerged in the same three different fluids, (v) in addition to the three isolated fluids: several spheres were submerged in stained water, transmission fluid and engine oil respectively.
