Abstract

PENAFIEL, M. L.  and  PENAFIEL, V. M.. Rotational relativistic dynamics. Revista Boliviana de Física [online]. 2015, vol.26, n.26, pp.1-5. ISSN 1562-3823.

Rotational theory and rigid body concepts in special relativity are discussed, postulating a manifestly covariant transformation for the relativistic rotation. Using this transforma-tion the geometrical change of a uniformly rotating disk is analyzed, solving the Ehrenfest paradox. Also, the most general expressions for the relativistic inertial forces are determined for rotations around all the spatial axes and, finally, the dynamics for the studied reference frame is analyzed, finding expressions for the inertial forces with their respective correction terms. It is shown that the transformation and the dynamical analysis are reduced to the corresponding cases for the classical rotation in the low-speed limit.

Keywords : Special relativity; Dynamics and kinematics of rigid bodies; Rotational dynamics.
