The objective of standardizing medical care processes through subsequent diagnostic and treatment standards, with the development of Epidemiology, Evidence Based Medicine and Health Services Research, has made it possible to generate new documents such as “Clinical Practice Guidelines”, “Protocols” and “National Standards of Clinical Care”, all of which are instruments that seek to improve the quality of patient care and optimize the availability of resources, thus giving greater importance to effective interventions based on the available scientific literature, avoiding as far as possible the use of interventions without scientific support based solely on experience or individual perspectives. Priority should always be given to local or national literature due to the characteristics of each population (based on genetics, environmental epigenetic factors, habits, customs, etc.). The document “National Standards of Clinical Care” is recognized in Bolivia as the instrument that seeks to improve the quality of care as well as the optimization of resources based on the available local (primarily) and international literature that is part of the Lex Artis Medicae as recognized by the legal system, which must be developed according to a described process, finally with the important utility of supporting the actions of health personnel.
