Given Ethiopia's growing population and its reliance on rainfed agriculture, addressing this challenge is critical to ensuring sustainable economic development and social well-being. One of the key strategies to mitigate the adverse effects is the adoption of Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA). This approach aims to improve agricultural productivity, increase resilience to climate shocks, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The transition from traditional subsistence farming to a more commercialized and climate-resilient agriculture is essential to sustain food production and economic growth. Despite the potential benefits of CSA, several obstacles to its widespread implementation remain. Limited access to technology, financial constraints, inadequate infrastructure, and insufficient policy support remain significant challenges. Addressing these barriers requires coordinated efforts by the government, the private sector, and international organizations to invest in climate adaptation initiatives, strengthen institutional capacity, and raise awareness among farmers. This study explores the socioeconomic consequences of climate change in Ethiopia and assesses the effectiveness of mitigation strategies, particularly climate-smart agricultural practices. By understanding the challenges and opportunities of adopting climate-smart agricultural practices, Ethiopia can improve its resilience to climate change while promoting sustainable economic growth and social development.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen Los cambios climáticos amenazan la seguridad alimentaria, los medios de subsistencia rurales y la estabilidad económica, agravando la pobreza y las desigualdades sociales. Dado el crecimiento demográfico de Etiopía y su dependencia de la agricultura de secano, abordarlo es fundamental para garantizar el desarrollo económico sostenible y el bienestar social. Una de las estrategias clave para mitigar los efectos adversos, es la adopción de la Agricultura Climáticamente Inteligente (ACI). Este enfoque pretende mejorar la productividad agrícola, aumentar la resistencia a las perturbaciones climáticas y reducir las emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero. La transición de la agricultura tradicional de subsistencia a una agricultura más comercializada y resistente al clima es esencial para mantener la producción de alimentos y el crecimiento económico. A pesar de los beneficios potenciales de la ACI, existen varios obstáculos para su aplicación generalizada. El acceso limitado a la tecnología, las restricciones financieras, las infraestructuras inadecuadas y el insuficiente apoyo político siguen siendo retos importantes. Abordar estas barreras requiere esfuerzos coordinados por parte del gobierno, el sector privado y las organizaciones internacionales para invertir en iniciativas de adaptación al clima, reforzar la capacidad institucional y concienciar a los agricultores. Este estudio exploro las consecuencias socioeconómicas del cambio climático en Etiopía y evalúo la eficacia de las estrategias de mitigación, en particular las prácticas agrícolas climáticamente inteligentes. Al comprender los retos y las oportunidades de la adopción de las ACI, Etiopía puede mejorar su resistencia al cambio climático y promover al mismo tiempo el crecimiento económico sostenible y el desarrollo social.]]></p></abstract>
