El estudio se llevó a cabo en una granja para animales menores en la Escuela de Medicina Veterinaria y Zootecnia de la Universidad Nacional Jorge Basadre Grohmann, sede Tacna, durante ocho semanas con 189 cuyes machos destetados (raza Perú). Fueron distribuidos en 21 jaulas. Los tratamientos consistieron en una dieta basal, que fue el tratamiento control, y 6 tratamientos experimentales (T1 a T6), que incluyeron la dieta basal enriquecida con diferentes niveles de vitamina E y selenio orgánico. Veintisiete cuyes fueron asignados a cada uno de los siete grupos de tratamiento. Cada grupo recibió una dieta basada en pellets además de alfalfa verde para cumplir con los requisitos de bienestar animal. Una vez finalizado el periodo experimental, se evaluó la ganancia de peso, la tasa de velocidad de crecimiento y el índice de conversión alimenticia. Los resultados de la investigación indicaron que la co-suplementación de vitamina E y selenio orgánico tuvo efectos significativos en los parámetros productivos, con todas las variables en los grupos de tratamiento superiores a las del grupo de control.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT The study deals with the effects of the diets supplemented with vitamin E and organic selenium on productive efficiency in guinea pigs (Cavia porcellus). The study was carried out in a small animal farm at the School of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics of the Universidad Nacional Jorge Basadre Grohmann, Tacna, for eight weeks with 189 weaned male guinea pigs (Peru breed). They were distributed in 21 cages. The treatments consisted of a basal diet, which was the control treatment, and 6 experimental treatments (T1 to T6), which included the basal diet enriched with different levels of vitamin E and organic selenium. Twenty-seven guinea pigs were assigned to each of the seven treatment groups. Each group received a pellet-based diet plus green alfalfa to meet animal welfare requirements. At the end of the experimental period, weight gain, growth rate and feed conversion ratio were evaluated. The results of the research indicated that co-supplementation of vitamin E and organic selenium had significant effects on productive parameters, with all variables in the treatment groups superior to those in the control group.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="pt"><p><![CDATA[RESUMO O estudo trata dos efeitos de dietas suplementadas com vitamina E selênio orgânico na eficiência produtiva de cobaias (Cavia porcellus). O estudo foi realizado em uma pequena fazenda de animais na Escola de Medicina Veterinária e Zootecnia da Universidade Nacional Jorge Basadre Grohmann, Tacna, durante oito semanas com 189 cobaias desmamadas (raça peruana). Elas foram distribuídas em 21 gaiolas. Os tratamentos consistiam de uma dieta basal, que era o tratamento de controle, e 6 tratamentos experimentais (T1 a T6), que incluíam a dieta basal enriquecida com diferentes níveis de vitamina E selênio orgânico. Vinte e sete cobaias foram designadas para cada um dos sete grupos de tratamento. Cada grupo recebeu uma dieta à base de pellets mais alfafa verde para atender às exigências de bem-estar animal. Após o final do período experimental, foram avaliados o ganho de peso, a taxa de crescimento e a taxa de conversão alimentar. Os resultados da investigação indicaram que a co-suplementação de vitamina E selênio orgânico teve efeitos significativos nos parâmetros de produção, com todas as variáveis nos grupos de tratamento sendo mais altas do que as do grupo de controle.]]></p></abstract>
