El vermicompostaje es un proceso ecotecnológico de bajo costo que permite la bio-oxidación, degradación y estabilización de residuos orgánicos. El reciclaje de desechos orgánicos para producir vermicompost puede beneficiar tanto a los consumidores como al medio ambiente, allanando así el camino hacia una agricultura más sostenible para el futuro. El objetivo de este trabajo fue revisar aspectos generales del vermicompostaje con el fin de usar esta técnica en el tratamiento de residuos sólidos de origen orgánico para potenciar la agricultura urbana desde una revisión de trabajos referidos a la temática. Se realizó una revisión de 99 trabajos publicados entre los años 2000 y 2022. Los cuales fueron recuperados desde Google Académico. Se usaron las palabras clave: urban agriculture, vermicomposting, earthworm humus, vermiculture. El vermicompostaje es una técnica mediante la cual las lombrices se alimentan de los residuos sólidos orgánicos y luego o transforman en vermicompost, se destaca la participación de la lombriz en este proceso a diferencia de un proceso normal de compostaje. Por lo tanto, esta técnica podría ser adecuada para reciclar los residuos sólidos de origen orgánico en las ciudades, además se puede contar con el vermicompost o humus de lombriz que es producto de este proceso que garantiza la sostenibilidad de la agricultura urbana.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The consumption of natural resources is constantly growing as the human population increases, which translates into a disproportionate increase in the generation of urban solid waste. Vermicomposting is a low-cost eco- technological process that allows the bio-oxidation, degradation and stabilization of organic waste. Recycling organic waste to produce vermicompost can benefit both consumers and the environment, thus paving the way towards a more sustainable agriculture for the future. The objective of this work was to review general aspects of vermicomposting in order to use this technique in the treatment of organic solid wastes to enhance urban agriculture from a review of works on the subject. A review of 99 papers published between 2000 and 2022 was carried out. These were retrieved from Google Scholar. The keywords used were: urban agriculture, vermicomposting, earthworm humus, vermiculture. Vermicomposting is a technique by which earthworms feed on organic solid waste and then transform it into vermicompost, highlighting the participation of the earthworm in this process as opposed to a normal composting process. Therefore, this technique could be adequate to recycle solid waste of organic origin in cities, in addition to the vermicompost or worm humus that is a product of this process that guarantees the sustainability of urban agriculture.]]></p></abstract>
