Un área de particular importancia es la serranía de Apa-Apa en Sud Yungas (La Paz, Bolivia). Los objetivos de esta reseña son a) presentar una lista taxonómicamente actualizada de las especies de plantas vasculares de los bosques montanos húmedos y áreas perturbadas de la serranía de Apa-Apa; b) cuantificar las especies endémicas y amenazadas e identificar algunas especies útiles; c) clasificar, caracterizar y cartografiar los tipos de vegetación de la zona; d) describir la flora en los diferentes tipos de vegetación; y e) resaltar la importancia de la conservación de estos bosques en términos de biodiversidad y del bienestar de las poblaciones locales. A lo largo de 40 años se realizaron colectas en la serranía, principalmente entre 1.800-2.600 m. Identificamos 1.439 especies de plantas vasculares, de las cuales 151 destacan como endémicas y 80 como nuevas para la ciencia, mostrando la alta riqueza de la serranía. Encontramos cuatro grupos vegetales principales: los bosques montanos húmedos, los bosques estacionales húmedos, los bosques estacionales subhúmedos y los bosques xéricos secos, además de la vegetación secundaria. Este estudio proporciona una base fundamental para futuras investigaciones y esfuerzos de conservación en la zona. Destacamos la importancia de promover la conservación de estos bosques tanto para mantener su gran diversidad, como para garantizar el acceso al agua a los pobladores locales.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The tropical montane forest of the Andes harbors high biodiversity threatened by increasing deforestation. The Andean region of Bolivia is missing studies about their plant species composition and richness. One area of particular interest is the Apa-Apa Mountain range in Sud Yungas, La Paz. The aims of this review are: a) to provide a taxonomically updated list of vascular plant species from the montane humid forest and its secondary vegetation, b) to quantify endemic and threatened species, c) to classify, characterize and map the vegetation types, d) to describe the flora of the different vegetation types, and e) to highlight the importance of forest conservation in this area. We made a partial inventory of vascular plants in the montane humid forest from 1,800-2,600 m, based in collections from the study area during 40 years. We found high species richness of vascular plants. Our species list includes 1,439 species in the Apa-Apa Mountain, from which 151 are endemic, and 80 are new species, highlighting its high diversity. We classified, characterized and mapped the vegetation types of the area, distinguishing four main vegetation groups: the montane humid forests, the seasonal humid forests, the seasonal sub-humid forests, and the dry xeric forests. We also include a characterization of secondary vegetation. This study provides a fundamental basis for future research and conservation efforts in the area. Our results highlight the importance of promoting the conservation of these forests to maintain their great biodiversity and to ensure access to water for local populations.]]></p></abstract>
