Tambi&eacute;n es una herramienta importante para la reconstrucci&oacute;n del crecimiento de los &aacute;rboles, con la aplicaci&oacute;n inmediata en los planos de manejo forestal sostenible (Tomazello Filho &amp; Cardoso 1999). Esta ciencia comenz&oacute; en Alemania con el trabajo sistem&aacute;tico de Theodor y Robert Hartig (a mediados del siglo XIX), siendo publicados importantes libros, como &ldquo;Climatic cycles and tree growth&rdquo; (Douglass 1936) y &ldquo;Tree rings and climate&rdquo; (Fritts 1976), entre otros. Roig (2000) edit&oacute; el libro &ldquo;Dendrocronolog&iacute;a en Am&eacute;rica Latina&rdquo; y Tomazello Filho <i>et al</i>. (2001) publicaron &ldquo;Dendrocronolog&iacute;a: an&aacute;lisis y aplicaci&oacute;n de los anillos de crecimiento como indicadores ambientales&rdquo;. Luego Brienen (2005) public&oacute; &ldquo;Tree rings in the tropics: a study on growth and ages of Bolivian rain forest trees&rdquo;, con &eacute;nfasis en especies de Bolivia. </font></P>     <P align="justify">&nbsp;</P>     <P align="center"><font size="3" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"> <b>La dendrocronolog&iacute;a y dendroecolog&iacute;a tropical en los pa&iacute;ses de Am&eacute;rica Latina</b></font></P>     <P align="justify"><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"> En <b>Bolivia</b>, L&oacute;pez (2003) desarroll&oacute; los primeros estudios dendrocronol&oacute;gicos de &aacute;rboles en 11 especies comerciales, de la provincia Guarayos (Depto. Santa Cruz), analizando los anillos de crecimiento anuales para la evaluaci&oacute;n de los ciclos de corta de los planes de manejo forestal. En 2003 se generaron tesis sobre dendrocronolog&iacute;a aplicada a especies de &aacute;rboles en Bolivia, en la Universidad de Utrecht (Holanda) por Rijpkema, Rodenburg y Janssens y por Callejas en la Universidad Aut&oacute;noma Gabriel Ren&oacute; Moreno (Bolivia). En el mismo a&ntilde;o, el Programa de Gesti&oacute;n de Bosques de la Amazon&iacute;a Boliviana (PROMAB), divulg&oacute; dos importantes publicaciones cient&iacute;ficas: En la primera, Brienen &amp; Zuidema (2003) describieron los diferentes tipos de anillos de crecimiento de los &aacute;rboles de 32 especies tropicales, indicando que <i>Cedrelinga catenaeformis</i> y <i>Cedrela odorata</i> con edades m&aacute;ximas de 123 y 308 a&ntilde;os respectivamente. En la segunda, Brienen <i>et al</i>. (2003) evaluaron la recuperaci&oacute;n del volumen de le&ntilde;a de &aacute;rboles de cuatro especies sometidas a diferentes ciclos de explotaci&oacute;n forestal, indicando que los de 20 a&ntilde;os son demasiado cortos para una recuperaci&oacute;n completa del volumen de madera. Los autores publicaron un resumen de los resultados en revistas de prestigio de ecolog&iacute;a y manejo forestal (Brienen &amp; Zuidema 2005, 2006 a, b, 2007). Las formaciones forestales, fenolog&iacute;a de las especies y los anillos de crecimiento de &aacute;rboles que ocurren en Bolivia son presentadas por Roig (2000), con una tabla de 39 especies, lo que indica el potencial de la dendrocronolog&iacute;a.</font></P>     <P align="justify"><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"> <b>M&eacute;xico</b> se ha constituido en uno de los principales pa&iacute;ses de la regi&oacute;n en la investigaci&oacute;n sobre dendrocronolog&iacute;a, con el registro de cronolog&iacute;as de anillos de crecimiento en 1940-1950 (Schulman 1944, 1956, Scott 1966) en base a &aacute;rboles de <i>Pinus sp</i>., <i>Pseudotsuga mensiesii y Abies duranguensis</i>. En la d&eacute;cada de los 70, el &ldquo;Proyecto Mexicano de Anillos de Crecimiento&rdquo; origin&oacute; 20 cronolog&iacute;as de &aacute;rboles, adem&aacute;s de otras cronolog&iacute;as cortas de madera recogidas de las antiguas iglesias de las misiones jesuitas (Villanueva-D&iacute;az <i>et al</i>. 2004). En dendroarquelog&iacute;a, Scott (1966) construy&oacute; una cronolog&iacute;a flotante de 485 a&ntilde;os con madera de con&iacute;feras obtenidas de ruinas prehist&oacute;ricas de Casas Grandes, en Chihuahua. La dendroclimatolog&iacute;a posibilit&oacute; la reconstrucci&oacute;n de la precipitaci&oacute;n e &iacute;ndice de intensidad de sequ&iacute;a de Palmer de &aacute;rboles localizados en el norte de Sonora (Villanueva-D&iacute;az &amp; McPherson 1996). Las cronolog&iacute;as de anillos de crecimiento de &aacute;rboles de con&iacute;feras de las regiones norte y noroeste fueron correlacionadas con las lluvias de invierno e &iacute;ndices de El Ni&ntilde;o/oscilaci&oacute;n del sur, aplicadas en la reconstrucci&oacute;n de esos &iacute;ndices (Villanueva-D&iacute;az <i>et al</i>. 2004, 2008) y en la dataci&oacute;n de &aacute;rboles (Villanueva-D&iacute;az <i>et al</i>. 2006). La anatom&iacute;a de los anillos de crecimiento de &aacute;rboles en la pen&iacute;nsula de Yucat&aacute;n fue descrita por Roig <i>et al</i>. (2005) y una revisi&oacute;n  sobre las investigaciones en dendrocronolog&iacute;a fueron realizadas por Stahle <i>et al</i>. (2000), enfatizando en estudios paleoclim&aacute;ticos, ecol&oacute;gicos, an&aacute;lisis de los patrones de circulaci&oacute;n atmosf&eacute;rica global, entre otros.</font></P>     ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<P align="justify"><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"> En <b>Per&uacute;</b>, los registros bibliogr&aacute;ficos indican la publicaci&oacute;n de Schwyzer (1988) con el an&aacute;lisis de los anillos de crecimiento de &aacute;rboles de <i>Myrciaria sp</i>., <i>Chorisia sp. y Cedrela sp</i>. en la Amazon&iacute;a peruana. La aplicaci&oacute;n de la dendrocronolog&iacute;a en la regi&oacute;n norte del Per&uacute; se inici&oacute; por la Universidad de Piura (1987), registr&aacute;ndose tesis de Flores (1994) y Martinez (2002).  Rodriguez <i>et al</i>. (1993) seleccionaron &aacute;rboles de <i>Capparis angulata, Bursera graveolens y Loxopiterigium huasango</i>, determinando las curvas del incremento radial del tronco, obteniendo una alta correlaci&oacute;n de los &iacute;ndices de anchura de los anillos y los niveles de precipitaci&oacute;n. Posteriormente, Rodriguez <i>et al</i>. (2005) y L&oacute;pez <i>et al</i>. (2005) caracterizaron  los anillos de crecimiento de &aacute;rboles de Bursera graveolens y Prosopis pallida obteniendo elevadas correlaciones con los eventos ENSO. De la Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina/UNALM se destacan las disertaciones de Becerra (2008), R&iacute;os (2008), Zumaeta (2009) y Poblete (2009). Est&aacute;n en marcha tesis sobre la dendrocronolog&iacute;a de <i>Cedrela odorata</i> e <i>Hymenaea courbaril</i>. La dendrocronolog&iacute;a en &aacute;rboles de <i>Swietenia macrophylla</i> de la selva tropical amaz&oacute;nica del Per&uacute; fue realizada por Alvarado <i>et al</i>. (en prensa) en la Universidad de San Paulo, Brasil. Anualmente, en los cursos internacionales de &ldquo;Ecolog&iacute;a de la Conservaci&oacute;n y Dise&ntilde;o de Sistema Forestales Sostenibles&rdquo; de la UNALM son implementadas clases de dendrocronolog&iacute;a. </font></P>     <P align="justify"><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"> En <b>Brasil</b>, las publicaciones de Alwim (1964) y Alwim &amp; Alwim (1978), sobre la periodicidad del crecimiento de los &aacute;rboles y el clima tropical fueron los primeros registros bibliogr&aacute;ficos. Luego siguieron estudios de los &aacute;rboles en las llanuras de inundaci&oacute;n de la Amazon&iacute;a Central (300.000 km<Sup>2</Sup>) por Worbes <i>et al</i>. (1985, 1988, 1989, 1992, 1995), Sch&ouml;ngart <i>et al</i>. (2002, 2004, 2005, 2007) y dos tesis publicadas (Sch&ouml;ngart 2003, Fonseca Junior 2007) relacionados con la dendrocronolog&iacute;a (edad, &iacute;ndice de crecimiento, reconstrucci&oacute;n de eventos clim&aacute;ticos de El Ni&ntilde;o y otros). Del mismo modo, en la selva amaz&oacute;nica, estudios examinaron los anillos de crecimiento, frecuencia y El Ni&ntilde;o (Botosso 1984, Botosso &amp; Vetter 1991, Bauch &amp; Dunisch 2000, Dunisch <i>et al</i>. 2002a, b, 2003). Hay una tesis que examin&oacute; los anillos de crecimiento de las especies de tierra firme (Tanaka 2005) y art&iacute;culos de revisi&oacute;n (Tomazello Filho 1995, <i>et al</i>. 2000, Botosso <i>et al</i>. 2000, Vetter 2000). El bosque atl&aacute;ntico constituye un reto, en que se registran pocas publicaciones sobre la anatom&iacute;a, calendario de los anillos y relaciones con la fenolog&iacute;a y el clima (Callado <i>et al</i>. 2001a, b, Lisi <i>et al</i>. 2008, Marcati <i>et al</i>. 2001, Tomazello Filho <i>et al</i>. 2004) con &eacute;nfasis en meli&aacute;ceas (Tomazello Filho <i>et al</i>. 2001) y la anatom&iacute;a de los anillos de crecimiento y ecolog&iacute;a (Alves &amp; Angyalossi-Alfonso 2000). En las selvas subtropicales con &aacute;rboles de <i>Araucaria angustifolia</i> se generaron otras publicaciones: Seitz &amp; Kanninen 1989, Wher 1998, Wher &amp; Tomazello Filho 2000, Lisi 2000, Oliveira 2007). Para las especies del Cerrado tambi&eacute;n se produjeron tesis sobre la actividad cambial y la formaci&oacute;n de los anillos de crecimiento (Coradin 2000, Marcati 2000, Mattos 1999, Amano 2007). Se destaca, tambi&eacute;n, la dendrocronolog&iacute;a de las especies de la caatinga (Tsuchyia 1990, Silva 2006), los bosques semideciduos (Luchi 1998) y las plantaciones de <i>Tectona grandis</i> (Cardoso 1991, Tomazello Filho &amp; Cardoso 1999).</font></P>     <P align="justify"><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"> En la selva de Misiones de la <b>Argentina</b>, al sur de la selva amaz&oacute;nica se analizaron los &aacute;rboles de <i>Cedrela fissilis</i> a trav&eacute;s de los m&eacute;todos de la dendrocronolog&iacute;a, por Boninsegna <i>et al</i>. (1989), permitiendo determinar su edad (60-200 a&ntilde;os) y la tasa de crecimiento, convirti&eacute;ndose en una herramienta importante para la gesti&oacute;n y reconstrucci&oacute;n de las variables clim&aacute;ticas, entre otros. Los &aacute;rboles de <i>Cedrela angustifolia</i> de bosques de baja latitud del norte de la Argentina y de Bolivia mostr&oacute; el potencial para la dendroclimatolog&iacute;a, presentando crecimiento de septiembre hasta abril o mayo, seguido de caducifol&iacute;a. Los anillos de crecimiento son anuales, diferentes con una buena uniformidad circular, permitiendo obtener dataciones cruzadas de alta calidad, con la temperatura y la precipitaci&oacute;n en el inicio de la estaci&oacute;n de crecimiento, induciendo un aumento de la espesura de los anillos de crecimiento (Villalba <i>et al</i>. 1985). En la regi&oacute;n de los Yungas (la continuidad de los ecosistemas forestales similares a las del sur de Bolivia) del NW argentino se desarrollaron cronolog&iacute;as a trav&eacute;s de los anillos de crecimiento de &aacute;rboles de <i>Juglans australis</i> y de <i>Cedrela lilloi</i> (Villalba <i>et al</i>. 1987, 1992). Las cronolog&iacute;as han sido utilizadas por Villalba <i>et al</i>. (1998) en la reconstrucci&oacute;n del clima (temperatura y precipitaciones) en el noroeste de Argentina en los &uacute;ltimos 200-300 a&ntilde;os.</font></P>     <P align="justify"><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"> En un art&iacute;culo de revisi&oacute;n sobre la dendrocronolog&iacute;a de los bosques neotropicales, Roig (2000) analiz&oacute; la posibilidad de aplicaci&oacute;n de los anillos de crecimiento en especies tropicales. Se present&oacute; una descripci&oacute;n anat&oacute;mica macro y microsc&oacute;pica de la madera de los &aacute;rboles, con &eacute;nfasis en los anillos de crecimiento, su baja resistencia natural de la madera de los &aacute;rboles para organismos xil&oacute;fagos, los m&eacute;todos principales de estudio y la influencia de la fenolog&iacute;a y de los factores clim&aacute;ticos, entre otros aspectos importantes.</font></P>     <P align="justify">&nbsp;</P>     <P align="center"><font size="3" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"> <b>Otros pa&iacute;ses </b></font></P>     <P align="justify"><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"> Para otros pa&iacute;ses de Am&eacute;rica Latina, la literatura muestra algunos trabajos cient&iacute;ficos relacionados con la dendrocronolog&iacute;a. En <b>Venezuela</b>, Dezzeo <i>et al</i>. (2003) examinaron la madera de los &aacute;rboles de especies de la zona h&uacute;meda, encontrando los anillos de crecimiento estrechos correspondientes a las caracter&iacute;sticas de la inundaci&oacute;n. Anteriormente, Worbes (1999) llev&oacute; a cabo evaluaciones de los &aacute;rboles tropicales de la Reserva Forestal de Caparo, identificando los anillos formados en respuesta al clima de temporada. En <b>Honduras</b>, la contribuci&oacute;n de Devall <i>et al</i>. (1995) describieron la formaci&oacute;n de anillos anuales de algunas especies y las condiciones ecol&oacute;gicas de su &aacute;rea. En la <b>Guayana Francesa</b> se evalu&oacute; la tasa de crecimiento en di&aacute;metro del tronco de los &aacute;rboles con dendr&oacute;metros, en correlaci&oacute;n con los anillos de crecimiento, fenolog&iacute;a y estaciones clim&aacute;ticas por Detienne &amp; Mariaux (1988). En <b>Costa Rica</b>, los anillos de crecimiento de <i>Cordia alliodora</i> fueron analizados y sincronizados por Tschinkel (1966), continuado por Lojan (1967) con un estudio m&aacute;s amplio, quien relacion&oacute; respecto al clima los anillos de &aacute;rboles de numerosas especies. Mckenzie (1972) estudi&oacute; a din&aacute;mica de la formaci&oacute;n de anillos a trav&eacute;s de lesiones del cambium en &aacute;rboles de <i>Prioria copaifera</i>. Adem&aacute;s Hazlett (1987) evalu&oacute; la estacionalidad de la actividad cambial de &aacute;rboles de <i>Pentaclethra, Goelthalsia y Carapa</i> correlacionada con las variaciones clim&aacute;ticas. En <b>El Salvador</b>, una revisi&oacute;n sobre dendrocronolog&iacute;a fue presentada por Hastenrath (1987) y en <b>Honduras</b> estudios dendrocronol&oacute;gicos fueron realizados por Johnson (1980) con el an&aacute;lisis de &aacute;rboles de <i>Pinus oocarpa</i> de Copan.</font></P>     <P align="justify"><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"> Como conclusi&oacute;n planteamos que los ecosistemas boscosos tropicales y subtropicales de Am&eacute;rica Latina son incluidos entre aquellos de mayor diversidad de especies y de mayor extensi&oacute;n territorial del mundo. El n&uacute;mero total de especies arb&oacute;reas y su presencia por unidad de &aacute;rea son llamativos, con un reconocimiento internacional de su importancia como patrimonio gen&eacute;tico, papel en el mantenimiento y equilibrio clim&aacute;tico global, almacenamiento de CO<Sup>2</Sup>, entre otros. Sin embargo, por la amplitud y significado de esos ecosistemas tropicales y subtropicales, las investigaciones dendrocronol&oacute;gicas pueden ser consideradas incipientes en relaci&oacute;n a los dem&aacute;s ecosistemas, por el n&uacute;mero de publicaciones cient&iacute;ficas, investigadores e instituciones involucradas. Una aplicaci&oacute;n de los m&eacute;todos de dendrocronolog&iacute;a pode proporcionar informaci&oacute;n extraordinaria respecto a la edad, tasa de crecimiento, fijaci&oacute;n de carbono, autoecolog&iacute;a de los &aacute;rboles y otros, haciendo posible implementarlas en estudios forestales, ecol&oacute;gicos y clim&aacute;ticos. Las restricciones se&ntilde;aladas sobre la existencia y anualidad en la formaci&oacute;n de anillos de crecimiento se han reducido con una peque&ntilde;a y constante producci&oacute;n cient&iacute;fica. A t&iacute;tulo indicativo de inmaduros y de la tasa elevada de descomposici&oacute;n del tronco de &aacute;rboles muertos no deben ser limitantes para el desarrollo de las investigaciones.
