<self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.bo/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S1012-29662025000200065&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.bo/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&amp;pid=S1012-29662025000200065&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.bo/scielo.php?script=sci_pdf&amp;pid=S1012-29662025000200065&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen  Objetivos:  evaluar el uso de metilprednisolona a dosis de 80 mg cada 12 horas endovenosa por 3 días en pacientes COVID-19 en donde se usó previamente dexametasona 6 mg cada 24 horas vía endovenosa sin indicación según el estudio RECOVERY (pacientes sin soporte ventilatorio) en mortalidad a 28 días y recuperación de la función ventilatoria.  Métodos:  se realizó un estudio descriptivo y retrospectivo de pacientes mayores de 18 años con COVID-19 diagnosticado por prueba antigénica en los cuales se utilizó dexametasona 6mg cada 24 horas por vía endovenosa sin indicación según el estudio RECOVERY. En dichos pacientes se utilizó como medicamento de rescate metilprednisolona 80 mg cada 12 horas vía endovenosa por 3 días además de terapia convencional de soporte para la época. Se evaluó además mortalidad a los 28 días y recuperación de la función ventilatoria.  Resultados:  de los 10 pacientes 5 fueron de sexo masculino y 5 de sexo femenino con una media de edad de 57,8 +- 11 años. Todos los pacientes recibieron previamente a la intervención dexametasona 6 mg cada 24 horas vía endovenosa por un promedio de 3,9 días. La saturación de oxígeno disminuyó en el período de mal uso de dexametasona de un promedio de 92,6% a 83,4%. El promedio del porcentaje de afectación pulmonar luego del tratamiento inadecuado con dexametasona fue de 49,5% en promedio. El uso de oxígeno en dicho momento fue de 12,2 litros por minuto por mascara reservorio en promedio. Se utilizó metilprednisolona 80 mg cada 12 horas vía endovenosa por 3 días como terapia de rescate, luego de lo cual se pudo observar estabilización en el consumo de oxígeno. El tiempo promedio de destete del tratamiento con oxígeno fue de 21,5 días. Se evaluó la mortalidad a 28 días en la serie en mención, la que fue de 0%.  Conclusiones:  Si bien es cierto se han encontrado beneficios en el uso de metilprednisolona como rescate en pacientes COVID-19, es menester de estudios prospectivos debidamente diseñados establecer con certeza el beneficio aquí esbozado, definiendo claros criterios de inclusión, formas de tratamiento, dosis y tiempo de este.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Objective:  to evaluate the use of methylprednisolone at a dose of 80 mg intravenously every 12 hours for 3 days in COVID-19 patients where dexamethasone 6mg intravenously was previously used without indication according to the RECOVERY study (patients without ventilatory support) in mortality at 28 days and recovery of ventilatory function.  Methods:  a descriptive and retrospective study of patients older than 18 years with COVID-19 diagnosed by the antigenic test was carried out, in whom dexamethasone 6mg was used intravenously every 24 hours without indication according to the RECOVERY study. In these patients, methylprednisolone 80 mg every 12 hours was used intravenously for 3 days as well as a conventional support therapy for the time. Mortality at 28 days and recovery of ventilatory function were also evaluated.  Results:  of the 10 patients, 5 were male and 5 were female with a mean age of 57.8 +- 11 years. All patients received intravenous dexamethasone 6 mg every 24 hours prior to the intervention for an average of 3.9 days. Oxygen saturation decreased in the period of dexamethasone misuse from an average of 92.6% to 83.4%. The average percentage of lung involvement after inadequate treatment with dexamethasone was 49.5% on average. Oxygen use at that time was 12.2 liters per minute per reservoir mask on average. Methylprednisolone 80 mg was used intravenously every 12 hours for 3 days as rescue therapy, after which stabilization in oxygen consumption could be observed. The mean weaning time from oxygen treatment was 21.5 days. Mortality at 28 days was evaluated in these series, which was 0%.  Conclusions:  although it is true that benefits have been found in the use of methylprednisolone as rescue in COVID-19 patients, it is necessary to carry out properly designed prospective studies to establish with certainty the benefit outlined here, defining clear inclusion criteria, forms of treatment, doses and time of this.]]></p></abstract>
