Los cosméticos, por su contenido de humedad y nutrientes, son propensos a transportar microorganismos patógenos, considerando que se aplican principalmente sobre la piel.  Objetivo:  Determinar la presencia o ausencia de microorganismos patógenos en cosméticos artesanales y controlados, en base a las normativas de calidad microbiológica.  Metodología:  se analizaron 10 cosméticos artesanales y 4 controlados con registro sanitario en AGEMED. Bajo condiciones estériles, se sembraron las muestras en caldos y luego en agar nutritivo mediante el método de placa para observar el crecimiento de colonias y realizar un recuento de UFC. Posteriormente, se usaron agar sangre, medios selectivos y pruebas bioquímicas para describir e identificar los microorganismos patógenos.  Resultados:  tres cosméticos artesanales mostraron contaminación microbiana: Agua micelar: 15x106 UFC/mL con Enterococcus spp; Crema de naranja: 1x104 UFC/mL con Enterococcus spp;Crema de rosas: 4x106 UFC/mL con Escherichia coli. Los cosméticos controlados no presentaron contaminación.  Conclusiones:  se identificaron microorganismos bacterianos patógenos en los cosméticos artesanales analizados, lo que incumple las normativas microbiológicas y pone en evidencia riesgos significativos para el consumidor. Esto resalta la importancia de controles rigurosos en productos cosméticos, especialmente en los de fabricación artesanal.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Quality control of artisanal cosmetics is essential as they are not subject to sanitary regulations, which can pose a risk to consumer health. Cosmetics, due to their moisture and nutrient content, are prone to carrying pathogenic microorganisms, especially considering their primary application to the skin.  Objective:  To determine the presence or absence of pathogenic microorganisms in artisanal and controlled cosmetics based on microbiological quality standards.  Methodology:  Ten artisanal cosmetics and four controlled cosmetics with AGEMED sanitary registration were analyzed. Under sterile conditions, the samples were inoculated into broths and then cultured on nutrient agar using the plate method to observe colony growth and perform a CFU count. Subsequently, blood agar, selective media, and biochemical tests were used to describe and identify the pathogenic microorganisms.  Results:  Three artisanal cosmetics showed microbial contamination: Micellar water: 15x106 CFU/mL with Enterococcus spp; Orange cream: 1x104 CFU/mL with Enterococcus spp; Rose cream: 4x106 CFU/mL with Escherichia coli. The controlled cosmetics showed no microbial contamination.  Conclusions:  Pathogenic bacterial microorganisms were identified in the artisanal cosmetics analyzed, which fails to comply with microbiological regulations and highlights significant risks to consumers. This underscores the need for rigorous quality control in cosmetic products, especially those of artisanal manufacture.]]></p></abstract>
