Objetivo:  Presente trabajo fue identificar la prevalencia del SM en etapa precoz del embarazo, evaluar su asociación con insulinorresistencia temprana en la gestación y con alteraciones del Doppler de las arterias uterinas.  Métodos:  Fueron captadas 82 embarazadas antes de la semana 16 de embarazo. El principal criterio de inclusión fue la edad gestacional entre la 11a y la 16a semana. El estado nutricional materno se comparó con los estándares de referencia propuestos por Atalah y cols ; adaptando las curvas nutricionales de Rosso y Mardones2. A cada embarazada se aplicó un cuestionario de antecedentes de riesgo y se realizó un perfil bioquímico basado en las guías ATP III (Adult Treatment Panel) del National Cholesterol Education Programm3. Se determinaron las concentraciones de factor de crecimiento placentario p1GF; y se realizó ecografía Doppler de las arterias uterinas.  Resultados:  La edad promedio del grupo estudiado fue de 25,1 años, media de edad gestacional de 12,8 semanas. El 51,2 % de mujeres estudiadas presentaron sobrepeso u obesidad. Se identificaron 4 criterios para síndrome metabólico en 31,71 % de la población estudiada. En este grupo, la concentración elevada de insulina llegó a 100 % de casos; la concentración de HDL disminuida, alcanzó a 92,3 %. Los triglicéridos aumentados 57,6%.  Conclusiones:  El 100% de las pacientes con SM mostró concentraciones elevadas de insulina. No se encontró asociación entre el SM y las alteraciones del factor de crecimiento placentario (p1GF), ni con el Índice de pulsatilidad de las arterias uterinas (IP)4.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The association of metabolic syndrome with adverse pregnancy outcomes constitutes a growing public health problem1.  Objectives:  The objective of the present work was to identify the prevalence of MS in the early stage of pregnancy, evaluate its association with insulin resistance early in pregnancy and with Doppler alterations of the uterine arteries.  Methods:  82 pregnant women were recruited before the 16th week of pregnancy. The main inclusion criterion was gestational age between the 11th and 16th week. Maternal nutritional status was compared with the reference standards proposed by Atalah et al; adapting the nutritional curves of Rosso and Mardones2. A risk history questionnaire was applied to each pregnant woman and a biochemical profile was performed based on the ATP III (Adult Treatment Panel) guidelines of the National Cholesterol Education Program3. Placental growth factor p1GF concentrations were determined; and Doppler ultrasound of the uterine arteries was performed.  Results:  The average age of the studied group was 25,1 years, average gestational age of 12,8 weeks. 51,2 % of women studied were overweight or obese. Four criteria for metabolic syndrome were identified in 31,71 % of the studied population. In this group, elevated insulin concentration reached 100% of cases; the HDL concentration decreased, reaching 92,3 %. Triglycerides increased 57,6 %.  Conclusions:  100% of patients with MS showed elevated insulin concentrations. No association was found between MS and alterations in placental growth factor (p1GF), or with the Pulsatility Index of the uterine arteries (PI)4.]]></p></abstract>
