Objetivo: Analizar las principales producciones científicas relacionadas con las redes sociales y su impacto en la salud mental de los estudiantes universitarios. Material y métodos: Se realizó un estudio bibliométrico descriptivo con un enfoque cuantitativo de trabajos publicados entre 2014 y 2024. Se identificaron y analizaron 277 documentos relevantes extraídos de la base de datos Scopus. Se utilizó el software VOSviewer para el análisis de co-ocurrencia de palabras clave y otras categorías pertinentes en la producción científica. Resultados: Se evidenció un aumento exponencial en la producción científica a partir de 2020, con un pico de 52 artículos en 2022. Este crecimiento se asocia con el impacto de la pandemia de COVID-19, que intensificó el uso de plataformas digitales como medio principal de interacción. Estados Unidos, Reino Unido y China destacaron como los países con la mayor cantidad de publicaciones en esta temática, aunque también hubo una representación significativa de otros países a nivel mundial. La revista International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health se posicionó como la más productiva en este campo, mientras que Medicina fue el área temática con más investigaciones, seguida por Psicología y Ciencias Sociales. Conclusión: Es fundamental continuar el estudio de este fenómeno, enfocándose en intervenciones que utilicen las redes sociales de manera positiva para mejorar el bienestar mental de los estudiantes universitarios.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT The increasing use of social media today has become a critical issue due to its impact on the mental health of university students. Objective: To analyze the main scientific productions related to social media and their impact on the mental health of university students. Material and methods: A descriptive bibliometric study was carried out with a quantitative approach of works published between 2014 and 2024. 277 relevant documents extracted from the Scopus database were identified and analyzed. VOSviewer software was used to analyze the co-occurrence of keywords and other relevant categories in scientific production. Results: An exponential increase in scientific production was evident starting in 2020, with a peak of 52 articles in 2022. This growth is associated with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, which intensified the use of digital platforms as the main means of interaction. The United States, the United Kingdom, and China stood out as the countries with the largest number of publications on this topic, although there was also a significant representation of other countries worldwide. The International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health was ranked as the most productive journal in this field, while Medicine was the thematic area with the most research, followed by Psychology and Social Sciences. Conclusion: It is essential to continue studying this phenomenon, focusing on interventions that use social media in a positive way to improve the mental well-being of university students.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="pt"><p><![CDATA[RESUMO O crescente uso das redes sociais hoje tornou-se uma questão crítica devido ao seu impacto na saúde mental dos estudantes universitários. Objetivo: Analisar as principais produções científicas relacionadas às redes sociais e seu impacto na saúde mental de estudantes universitários. Material e métodos: Foi realizado um estudo bibliométrico descritivo com abordagem quantitativa de trabalhos publicados entre 2014 e 2024. Foram identificados e analisados 277 documentos relevantes extraídos da base de dados Scopus. O software VOSviewer foi utilizado para análise de coocorrência de palavras-chave e demais categorias relevantes na produção científica. Resultados: Ficou evidente um aumento exponencial da produção científica a partir de 2020, com pico de 52 artigos em 2022. Esse crescimento está associado ao impacto da pandemia da COVID-19, que intensificou o uso de plataformas digitais como principal meio de interação. Os Estados Unidos, o Reino Unido e a China destacaram-se como os países com maior número de publicações sobre este tema, embora também tenha havido uma representação significativa de outros países a nível mundial.
