El objetivo de la presente investigación fue analizar la utilidad diagnóstica de los biomarcadores factor reumatoideo y anticuerpos contra péptidos cíclicos citrulinados en la identificación de la artritis reumatoide y su relación con la severidad de la enfermedad. Se utilizó un diseño descriptivo de corte transversal, con un enfoque de análisis documental secundario en 296 pacientes diagnosticados con artritis reumatoide, atendidos en un hospital de segundo nivel en la ciudad de Loja, Ecuador, durante el año 2023. Los resultados indicaron que el 81.1% de los pacientes se encuentra en etapas iniciales de la enfermedad, destacando la importancia de la detección temprana para prevenir daños articulares. La prevalencia fue mayor en mujeres, con el 79.4%, lo que sugiere la necesidad de enfoques diagnósticos específicos; el 92.6% de los pacientes eran adultos y mayores, por lo que se recomienda la aplicación de estrategias de manejo adaptadas. Los dos biomarcadores presentaron asociaciones significativas con las etapas de severidad de la enfermedad, siendo el de anticuerpos contra péptidos cíclicos citrulinados más confiable y específico en un 95%, lo que resalta la necesidad del uso complementario de ambos para una evaluación integral del paciente.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT Early diagnosis and classification of rheumatoid arthritis are crucial to prevent joint damage and improve the quality of life of patients, due to its worldwide prevalence. The objective of the present research was to analyze the diagnostic utility of the biomarkers rheumatoid factor and antibodies against cyclic citrullinated peptides in the identification of rheumatoid arthritis and its relationship with the severity of the disease. A descriptive cross-sectional design was used, with a secondary documentary analysis approach in 296 patients diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, treated in a second-level hospital in the city of Loja, Ecuador, during the year 2023. The results indicated that 81.1% of patients are in the early stages of the disease, highlighting the importance of early detection to prevent joint damage. The prevalence was higher in women, with 79.4%, suggesting the need for specific diagnostic approaches; 92.6% of patients were adults and older, so the application of adapted management strategies is recommended. The two biomarkers presented significant associations with the stages of disease severity, with the anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide antibody being more reliable and specific at 95%, which highlights the need for the complementary use of both for a comprehensive evaluation of the patient.]]></p></abstract>

O objetivo desta pesquisa foi analisar a utilidade diagnóstica dos biomarcadores fator reumatoide e anticorpos contra peptídeos citrulinados cíclicos na identificação da artrite reumatoide e sua relação com a gravidade da doença. Foi utilizado um delineamento transversal descritivo, com abordagem de análise documental secundária em 296 pacientes com diagnóstico de artrite reumatoide, atendidos em um hospital de segundo nível na cidade de Loja, Equador, durante o ano de 2023. Os resultados indicaram que 81,1% dos os pacientes estão nos estágios iniciais da doença, o que destaca a importância da detecção precoce para prevenir danos nas articulações.
