Nuevos avances resultantes de la gran cantidad de estudios realizados permiten la generación de grandes cantidades de energía en sitios estudiados. Si bien en su mayoría se presentan en forma de aerogeneradores de eje horizontal (HAWT&#8217;s), los aerogeneradores de eje vertical (VAWT&#8217;s) permiten una gran integración a la vida urbana y microgeneración en áreas residenciales o rurales. La gran cantidad de VAWT&#8217;s existentes permiten accesibilidad a soluciones energéticas que requiere la industria actualmente, como luminarias autosustentables, soluciones energéticas móviles y micro generación diversa. En este sentido, el presente artículo analiza una gran cantidad de VAWT&#8217;s al igual que sus características principales en términos de generación eléctrica. Se categorizan los hallazgos e instalaciones de generadores por sus principios de funcionamiento. El documento también estudia avances recientes en la investigación de VAWT&#8217;s y las tendencias en aplicaciones futuras.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT Considering the current trend to replace fossil energy sources with renewable energy sources, caused by the existing global crisis, wind energy is shown as one of the most promising among the renewable energies. In the last years, wind energy has been widely studied with good results in terms of quantity of energy generated for some projects. Although the majority of these studies are on horizontal-axis wind turbines (HAWT´s), vertical-axis wind turbines (VAWT´s) had also need to be considered because they allow a good integration between urban life and microgeneration on residential and rural areas. In this sense, this work presents and discusses the working principle and the principal characteristics of all kinds of VAWT´s present in the literature. Besides, recent research and advances related to VAWT´s are also presented and discussed.]]></p></abstract>
