Según reporta el Sistema Nacional de Información en Salud (SNIS) hasta el año 2022 en Bolivia las enfermedades gástricas ocupaban el tercer lugar de las enfermedades no trasmisibles de mayor frecuencia de atención en primer y segundo nivel, índice que ha seguido en aumento en los dos últimos años, esto promueve el desarrollo de tratamientos naturales que produzcan menos efectos secundarios que los tratamientos convencionales, entre las alternativas, destaca el uso de las plantas y alimentos que ayuden a proteger el estómago. En este sentido, se han reportado en la medicina tradicional y en algunas publicaciones científicas el efecto beneficioso de la masticación de coca en el tratamiento de úlceras, lesiones, espasmos y dolor, además de náuseas y diarrea. Por otra parte, se ha informado en publicaciones científicas que el consumo de plátano inmaduro (verde) ofrece un efecto protector sobre la mucosa gástrica lo que fortalece la resistencia a las lesiones y promueve curación de las úlceras.  Objetivo.  Se plantea como objetivo de investigación, la evaluación del efecto gastroprotector de los extractos hidroetanólicos de Musa paradisiaca (plátano), Erithroxylum coca (coca) y una combinación de ambos, en un modelo farmacológico in vivo.  Materiales y métodos.  Se obtuvieron extractos hidroetanólicos de ambas especies vegetales (plátano verde y hojas de coca), los que fueron ensayados en el modelo de úlcera gástrica inducida por etanol, esto permitió evaluar la actividad gastroprotectora de los extractos a una dosis de 500 mg/kg y su combinación a una dosis de 1500 mg/kg, mediante el análisis macroscópico de úlceras, su puntuación y la determinación del área total de la lesión (mm2) y el área relativa de la lesión (%).  Resultados.  Los resultados obtenidos mostraron que los extractos de plátano y la combinación de los extractos plátano y coca presentan una actividad gastroprotectora significativa contra el agente agresivo etanol.  Conclusiones.  El extracto etanolico de plátano verde y la combinación con el extracto hidroetanolico de coca, muestran un efecto gastroprotector en modelo in vivo.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Introduction.  According to the National Health Information System (SNIS), until 2022 in Bolivia, gastric diseases occupied third place among the non-communicable diseases with the highest frequency of care at the first and second levels, an index that has continued to increase in the last two years. This promotes the development of natural treatments that produce fewer side effects than conventional treatments. Among the alternatives, the use of plants and foods that help protect the stomach stands out. In this sense, the beneficial effect of chewing coca in the treatment of ulcers, lesions, spasms and pain, as well as nausea and diarrhea, has been reported in traditional medicine and in some scientific publications. On the other hand, it has been reported in scientific publications that the consumption of unripe (green) banana offers a protective effect on the gastric mucosa, which strengthens resistance to lesions and promotes the healing of ulcers.  Objective.  The objective of this research is to evaluate the gastroprotective effect of hydroethanolic extracts of Musa paradisiaca (banana), Erithroxylum coca (coca) and a combination of both, in an in vivo pharmacological model.  Materials and methods.  Hydroethanolic extracts of both plant species (green banana and coca leaves) were obtained, which were tested in the ethanol-induced gastric ulcer model. This allowed the evaluation of the gastroprotective activity of the extracts at a dose of 500 mg/kg and their combination at a dose of 1500 mg/kg, through macroscopic analysis of ulcers, their score and the determination of the total area of the lesion (mm2) and the relative area of the lesion (%).  Results.  The results obtained showed that the banana extracts and the combination of banana and coca extracts present a significant gastroprotective activity against the aggressive agent ethanol.  Conclusion.  Hydroethanolic extract of banana and combination with hydroethanolic extract of coca have showed gastroprotective activity in vivo model.]]></p></abstract>
