Uno de sus usos principales es como planta medicinal, por sus propiedades antiinflamatorias. Esto está respaldado por los estudios de un grupo multidisciplinario de especialistas de varios institutos de investigación en la Universidad Mayor de San Andrés, el mismo que propone desarrollar productos fitoterapéuticos con valor agregado en base a plantas nativas de Bolivia, con estudios científico-clínicos necesarios que justifiquen su uso efectivo y seguro. Asimismo, se realizaron estudios de las características taxonómicas, ecológicas de Baccharis latifolia dentro del valle de La Paz, su distribución en áreas rurales, urbanas y periurbanas y la importancia del conocimiento de sus características morfológicas que la distinguen dentro de las comunidades vegetales y son la base para estudios fotoquímicos. Sin embargo, no existen estrategias nacionales o locales para su conservación, por lo que es necesario continuar con la generación de conocimientos orientados a la conservación y la formulación de planes de manejo de la especie.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Baccharis latifolia, known as chilka in Bolivia, is an important species due to its traditional use and adaptability to the harsh environments of the La Paz valley. One of its main uses is as a medicinal plant, due to its anti-inflammatory properties. This is supported by studies from a multidisciplinary group of specialists from various research institutes at the Universidad Mayor de San Andrés, which proposes to develop value-added phytotherapeutic products based on native Bolivian plants, with the necessary scientific-clinical studies to justify their effective and safe use. In addition, studies were conducted on the taxonomic and ecological characteristics of Baccharis latifolia within the La Paz valley, its distribution in rural, urban and peri-urban areas, and the importance of understanding its morphological characteristics that distinguish it within plant communities and are the basis for photochemical studies. However, there are no national or local strategies for its conservation, so it is necessary to continue generating knowledge aimed at conservation and the formulation of management plans for the species.]]></p></abstract>
