La restauración de ecosistemas degradados en Bolivia forma parte fundamental de las prioridades para revertir la pérdida de la biodiversidad y las emisiones de carbono, especialmente en áreas impactadas por los incendios forestales. El objetivo de este estudio fue establecer una metodología con enfoque holístico para la identificación de áreas potenciales para la aplicación de acciones en restauración asistida en sitios impactados por los incendios en el departamento de Santa Cruz entre los años 2019 y 2021. El método se basó en un análisis de decisión multicriterio que usó tres criterios de variables geográficas: impacto, biofísico y socioeconómico. El criterio de impacto incluyó el nivel de severidad y recurrencia de incendios, el criterio biofísico identificó la cobertura forestal afectada por incendios, en tanto que el criterio socioeconómico consideró la accesibilidad a centros poblados, áreas productivas y vías de accesos. Como resultado se identificaron tres categorías de prioridad: media, alta y muy alta, y estos datos se analizaron a nivel departamental, municipal y de áreas protegidas. Se identificó que la superficie categorizada como de muy alta prioridad cubre una superficie de 81.670 ha, representando el 0,3% de los bosques del departamento. Los municipios que presentaron las mayores superficies con prioridad muy alta fueron San Matías, San Ignacio de Velasco, San José de Chiquitos, San Rafael de Velasco y Charagua; y las áreas protegidas de San Matías y Ñembi Guasu, presentaron las mayores superficies potenciales para realizar restauración. Se concluye que el modelo aplicado puede servir de soporte para la toma de decisiones de cualquier programa de restauración y se recomienda incluir los sitios de muy alta prioridad en el plan de restauración departamental.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Ecological restoration is a group of actions aimed at reestablishing ecosystem functionality, contributing to human wellbeing, biodiversity conservation and to regulating the planet's climate. The restoration of degraded ecosystems in Bolivia is a priority strategy to reverse the loss of biodiversity and carbon storage, especially in areas impacted by wildfires. The objective of this study was to establish a methodology with a holistic approach for the identification of potential areas for the application of assisted restoration actions in areas impacted by fires in the department of Santa Cruz between 2019 and 2021. The method was based on multi-criteria decision analysis in which geographic variables were categorized based on three criteria: impact, biophysical and socioeconomic. The impact criterion included the level of severity and recurrence of wildfires, the biophysical criterion identified the forest cover affected by wildfires, while the socioeconomic criterion considered accessibility to population centers, productive areas and access roads. As a result, three priority categories were identified: medium, high and very high, which were analyzed at the departmental, municipal and protected area levels. The area categorized as very high priority covers 81,670 ha, representing 0.3% of the department's forests. The municipalities with the largest areas with a high priority for restoration are San Matías, San Ignacio de Velasco, San José de Chiquitos, San Rafael de Velasco and Charagua; and the protected areas of San Matías and Ñembi Guasu have the largest potential areas for restoration. We conclude that the applied model can serve as a support for decision making in any restoration program and recommend the inclusion of very high priority sites in the departmental restoration plan.]]></p></abstract>
