This study aimed to assess the research skills of students in the Professional Academic Nursing Program at a private university in Huánuco, Peru. A descriptive, prospective, and cross-sectional study was conducted with a non-probabilistic sample of 300 students from the sixth to the eighth cycle. A validated 27-item questionnaire with four dimensions (research problems, theorization, verification, and communication) was administered. The results showed that 97.0% of the students had a “good” level of general research skills, while 3.0% were at a “regular” level. The dimension with the best performance was study verification (98.3% good), and the lowest was communication of results (80.3% good). These findings suggest that current curricular strategies and faculty support are successfully promoting research training, although communication skills require reinforcement. It is concluded that there is a favorable outlook that must be consolidated to ensure that future nursing professionals base their practice on solid scientific evidence.
