JUSTO ARACAYO, Jeanette et al. Level of knowledge about solid waste management among primary school students in the highlands. Tribunal [online]. 2025, vol.5, n.13, pp.546-555. Epub 02-Oct-2025. ISSN 2959-6513. https://doi.org/10.59659/revistatribunal.v5i13.286.
This study aimed to determine the level of knowledge that fifth-grade primary school students have about solid waste management in a public school in Peru. A mixed-methods approach with a simple descriptive design was used. Fifty students were surveyed using a questionnaire with 40 questions distributed across four dimensions: basic concepts, the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), stages of waste management, and the color-coding system. The results showed that 36% of the students had insufficient knowledge, 24% had moderate knowledge, 30% had good knowledge, and 10% had excellent knowledge. The greatest difficulties were found in the dimensions of basic concepts, stages of waste management, and the color-coding system, while the 3R dimension showed better results. It was concluded that students have inadequate knowledge about this topic, therefore, there is a need to reinforce environmental education both in schools and at home.
