HUAMAN CHICLLA, Mariluz et al. Songs as a didactic strategy to improve oral language in Quechua-speaking children, Peru. Tribunal [online]. 2025, vol.5, n.12, pp.145-161. Epub 01-Jul-2025. ISSN 2959-6513. https://doi.org/10.59659/revistatribunal.v5i12.199.
Oral language development in bilingual children strengthens their communication, self-esteem, and learning, facilitating cultural integration and academic success. The objective of this study was to determine the impact of using songs as a teaching strategy on the development of oral language skills in Quechua-speaking children at an early childhood education institution in Andahuaylas, Peru. Applied research was conducted with a quantitative approach and correlational pre-experimental design. 18 children were evaluated through pretest and posttest, using systematic observation and a checklist to verify compliance with specific criteria. The results show that the song intervention significantly improved the children's oral language, with 72.22% achieving the expected achievement and consistent progress across all assessed dimensions. The improvement was statistically significant, with the semantic dimension being particularly notable. The culturally relevant strategy strengthened identity and motivation, and it is recommended that the phonological and pragmatic dimensions be continued.
