Reading comprehension is a fundamental skill in basic education, as it is the foundation for learning in other areas of knowledge and for developing citizens capable of reasoning and coherently interpreting the texts they encounter. This study analyzed the development of reading comprehension in basic education students. To this end, the literature was reviewed in databases such as Scopus, Scielo, and Web of Science, establishing a time limit of six years (2018-2024) using the PRISMA method. The results indicated that improving students' reading comprehension requires the implementation of various strategies from school. In today's world, the use of technological educational environments significantly supports this activity, and it is the teacher who must promote activities that encourage reading by selecting strategies. It is concluded that reading comprehension is essential in the learning process of students, so generating interest in reading is crucial.
