LOPEZ ANGELINO, Lizbeth Shermelyn et al. Reading habits on communicative skills in college students. Tribunal [online]. 2025, vol.5, n.12, pp.59-76. Epub 01-Jul-2025. ISSN 2959-6513. https://doi.org/10.59659/revistatribunal.v5i12.193.
Effective communication strengthens relationships, facilitates learning, boosts professional development, and promotes academic and social understanding. The objective of this research was to determine the impact of reading habits on the development of communication skills, both receptive and productive, in university students. The design had a quantitative, causal correlational and cross-sectional approach, with a non-experimental design The non-probabilistic sample included 92 Early Childhood Education students from a university in Apurímac, Peru, collected during 2024. The results show that outstanding reading habits are associated with better communication skills, especially in listening and speaking, although their impact is less on reading comprehension and writing. Logistic models confirmed a significant association, p < 0.05, although with low explanatory power, pseudo R² < 0.17, suggesting that reading is necessary but not sufficient for comprehensive communicative development. It is recommended that reading promotion be complemented with complementary pedagogical strategies for writing and speaking to strengthen comprehensive communication skills.
