This article analyzes the development of professional academic competencies in university students majoring in Education, within the context of Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), at a public university in Lima. The methodology used is quantitative, using a structured questionnaire and an academic competency test to final-year Education students. The results showed a positive and statistically significant correlation between these competencies and the university's perceived commitment to sustainable education. It was identified that pedagogical knowledge, teaching skills, and soft skills play a determining role in the training of teachers capable of positively impacting education. The study concludes that it is imperative to strengthen teacher training through educational models centered on competencies and innovative pedagogical strategies that enhance practical learning and the resolution of real-life problems in the classroom.
