The study aimed to analyze the status of primary studies on research skills to promote academic literacy in higher education, as well as to know the relevant results and recommendations of the authors during the development of literacy from research skills in higher education according to the Scopus, Web Of Science and ProQuest databases; between 2020 and November 2023. The study was a systematic review. The search descriptors "research skills" and "academic literacy" were considered and 22 articles were reviewed through the selection process. In conclusion, the development of academic literacy, driven by research skills, is essential for the educational and professional success of university students. Skills such as critical thinking, information seeking, academic writing, data collection and analysis, self-management and time management, and information management were found.
