PEREZ OLIVERA, Gary Hoskin e PEREZ AZAHUANCHE, Manuel Angel. Strengthening self-esteem to achieve reading success and improve academic performance. Tribunal [online]. 2024, vol.4, n.9, pp.229-248. Epub 25-Out-2024. ISSN 2959-6513. https://doi.org/10.59659/revistatribunal.v4i9.74.
This research aimed to determine how self-esteem influences academic performance in university Students in the area of communication, specifically reading comprehension. Applied research was developed with a mixed approach, combining quantitative and qualitative methods. A quasi-experimental design was used with 105 university Students. The data collection instruments, validated through expert judgment, included observation, interviews and surveys. The results indicated an improvement in reading comprehension, particularly in the inferential dimension, in the experimental group after the intervention focused on self-esteem.Quantitative data revealed a notable increase in post-intervention reading comprehension scores, while qualitative findings highlighted Students' positive perception of their own academic performance. It was concluded that self-esteem intervention improves Students' ability to understand and process literal information. However, in the critical dimension of reading comprehension, self-esteem did not show a notable impact on academic performance.
