Abstract
TAIPE-ENRIQUEZ, Juan Romario et al. Practices on preventive measures for iron deficiency anemia among mothers of children under 3 years of age in Peru. Vive Rev. Salud [online]. 2026, vol.9, n.25, pp.101-115. Epub Jan 06, 2026. ISSN 2664-3243. https://doi.org/10.33996/revistavive.v9i25.459.
The objective of this study was to determine the preventive practices against iron deficiency anemia among mothers of children under 3 years of age attending the Yauli Health Center in Huancavelica during 2023. A quantitative approach with a descriptive, cross-sectional, and non-experimental design was used. The population consisted of 105 mothers, from which a sample of 83 was selected using simple random sampling. Data were collected through a survey, and the instrument, a questionnaire on preventive practices, was validated using Aiken’s V coefficient (0.94). Reliability was assessed using Cronbach’s alpha (0.788). The results showed adequate practices in iron-rich diet (88.4%), multimicronutrient supplementation (84.6%), breastfeeding (99.7%), and food hygiene (84.4%). However, inadequate practices were identified in food hygiene (15.6%) and multimicronutrient administration (15.4%), indicating areas for improvement. It is concluded that there is a high level of preventive practices among the studied population; however, challenges remain in food hygiene education and supplementation practices, which are key aspects in preventing childhood anemia.
