Environmental pollution from mining activity represents a global challenge with devastating local impacts, especially in communities such as Cerro de Pasco, Peru, where exposure to heavy metals reaches alarming levels. The work was carried out in the city of Cerro de Pasco, in 2023. The objective is to analyze environmental pollution and solid waste management in the mining city of Cerro de Pasco, Peru. It is a quantitative, descriptive and analytical, cross-sectional study. Non-experimental design. The opinion of the residents on environmental pollution in this city was collected; the management and handling of solid waste was also analyzed. Mining and domestic activity mostly pollute the environment, which affects public health. Municipalities are responsible for the management and handling of household and non-household waste, known as municipal waste. The results reveal that a total of 65.81 t/day is generated, of which 40.29% corresponds to household waste, the majority (57.59%) is non-household waste, and 2.11% corresponds to special waste handled by the Ministry of Health. Each person generates an average of 470 grams of household waste per day. Recyclable waste accounts for 62.77% of the total municipal waste, and organic waste accounts for 50% of it. Finally, it is concluded that there are difficulties in all stages of waste management, the most notable being in the assessment and final disposal.
