The present study compared the efficiency between Helianthus annuus and Zea mays I. as phytoremediation species, with the objective of comparing the efficiency between Helianthus annuus and Zea mays L. in the removal of lead in soils contaminated by mine tailings in Huamachuco. The methodology was experimental, cross-sectional design, quantitative approach, the population was the total volume of the soil and the sample consisted of 15 kg of contaminated soil. The instrument used was the data collection form and Microsoft Excel. In addition, SPSS 28 and the T test were used for data processing; to calculate metals on the surface, the EPA 3050B method was used in the samples with pre- and post-treatment data. The results show that Zea mays L. is the species with the highest removal efficiency, achieving 62.85% compared to Helianthus annuus with 53.57% removal.
