Canine demodicosis is described as a parasitic disease caused by the mite Demodex canis. It is mentioned that demodicosis can occur in a localized or generalized form, and that the generalized form is more serious and difficult to treat. It is evident that early diagnosis and appropriate treatment prevent complications and improve the quality of life of the affected dog. This case report describes the diagnosis and treatment of a dog with generalized canine demodicosis. A sample was taken for parasitological examination by skin scraping of the epidermis on 3 occasions. Scraping was carried out until a hemorrhagic spot was obtained in the lesion. Subsequently, the sample was collected with the scalpel and was visualized with an optical microscope. The treatment included the use of Afoxolaner and medicated baths based on 3.5% Benzoyl Peroxide and 1.03% Glycerin every 7 days for 30 days. Clinical improvement was observed after treatment and no Demodex canis mites were found in the control scraping performed after 60 days. The blood test results showed some values out of range, but no serious abnormalities were observed. In conclusion, the use of afoxolaner administered orally was highly effective in the treatment of generalized demodicosis in the dog evidenced.
