Every public project that is implemented is carried out on the basis of cost-benefit and its financial implications; however, it is also necessary to evaluate the social benefits in accordance with the theoretical principles of welfare economics. Family farming plays an important role in the eradication of hunger and poverty; it is an activity that guarantees food security at the three levels of government and, therefore, its empowerment is necessary and vital for the economic development of the country. The objective of the research was to analyze family agriculture and the difficulties it presents in terms of public investment. To carry out the analysis, a narrative review was carried out, supported by documentary design, cross-sectional, observational, where the information contained in the Supreme Decree No. 238-2019-EF, the data provided by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), about GDP of Peru, the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture - IICA, among others, was analyzed; the matrix of records was used as an instrument, under the technique of documentary analysis of books, journal articles, gray literature, press, legislation. In conclusion, it is necessary and essential that the governmental States consider as a priority to invest in the agricultural sector, with emphasis on Family Farming, since they are not only responsible for feeding the planet, but also provide food that guarantees the health of human beings.
