The contamination of water by the presence of heavy metals such as lead is a global problem that has unbalanced the health system of mankind, since this metal affects the purity of drinking water, endangering the survival of living beings, since lead affects the nervous, hematological, cardiovascular and reproductive systems; In view of this, biosorption is presented as an effective alternative method, which is why this study aims to provide an updated overview of the biosorptive capacity of Nostoc commune in the elimination of lead from contaminated water. A review and analysis of the state of the art in its heuristic and hermeneutic phases was carried out on the biosorptive capacity of Nostoc commune, compiling scientific articles and theses related to lead biosorption using descriptors such as "biosorption", "chemosorption", "Nostoc commune" and "heavy metals". It is highlighted that the biosorptive capacity is comprised between 247.35 and 384.62 mg pb / g of Nostoc commune; and the model describing was Langmuir (R2) comprised between 98.8 and 99.25%; being Nostoc commune a highly efficient biosorbent potential to separate lead from contaminated water, through carboxyl and hydroxyl groups, reducing sugars, saponins and amino acids, concluding that, Nostoc commune has high biosorbent potential and very effective to counteract the presence of lead in water.
