Savings in guinea pig production costs allow breeders to obtain better income to satisfy their primary needs in terms of food, health and recreation. For this reason, the present study was developed with the aim to evaluate the effect of four food diets on the nutritional value of the carcass in guinea pigs (Cavia porcellus). A total of 360 30-day-old male guinea pigs were fed four diets based on hydroponic green barley (Hordeum vulgare) fodder. The animals were subjected to a pre-experimental period of one week of adaptation to the new feed, and randomly distributed in four treatments, 90 guinea pigs per treatment: T4: FVH + alfalfa, T3: FVH + milling residues, T2: FVH + sweet potato foliage and T1: FVH + concentrate. It is reported that the carcass of guinea pigs consuming FVH + alfalfa had 5% more moisture than the meat of those fed with FVH + concentrate; 2.8% more crude protein and 0.9% more crude fat than the carcass of guinea pigs consuming FVH + milling residues. It is concluded that the type of diet has an effect on the nutritive value of guinea pig carcasses, being the FVH + alfalfa diet the one with the best results.
