BENAVIDES, Rene Antonio Hinojosa; AGUILAR, Adelfa Yzarra  e  YAURI, Golber Rojas. Productive behavior in guinea pigs (Cavia cobayo) under the effect of four feeding systems. Rev. Inv. Cs. Agro. y Vet. [online]. 2022, vol.6, n.16, pp.178-185.  Epub 29-Abr-2022. ISSN 2664-0902.  https://doi.org/10.33996/revistaalfa.v6i16.160.

The present study was developed in the model farm of Pago de Azángaro Grande, Porvenir, Huanta, Ayacucho. We worked with 40 male guinea pigs of the Peru breed, four weeks old with an average weight of 0.435 kg, using hydroponic green fodder (HGF) of barley (Hordeum vulgare) as feed base of four feeding systems to evaluate for 60 days its effect on productive behaviour: forage intake (FI), live weight (LW), feed conversion (FC), carcass weight (CW), carcass yield (CY) and weight gain (WG), applying four treatments in a completely randomized design. Data were processed with analysis of variance (ANOVA), applying Tukey's multiple range test (P≤0.05) to determine differences between treatment means. The highest FI (P<0.01) was for FVH + concentrate (42.49 g animal-1 day-1), followed by 41.07, 40.05 and 36.46 for FVH + sweet potato foliage, FVH + milling residues and FVH + alfalfa, respectively. The provision of FVH + alfalfa allowed an increase (P<0.01) in LW (915.70 g); WG (9.06 g /animal / day) and more efficient FC (4.24). It is concluded that by supplying FVH + alfalfa, higher LW, CW and CY are achieved, as well as better FC in guinea pig fattening.
