MAMANI TOLA, Ariel Ramiro. Competitive programming as a teaching-learning strategy in introductory programming modules. Horizontes Rev. Inv. Cs. Edu. [online]. 2025, vol.9, n.38, pp.2189-2205. Epub 01-Abr-2025. ISSN 2616-7964. https://doi.org/10.33996/revistahorizontes.v9i38.1044.
The teaching of programming in programs such as Systems Engineering and Computer Engineering faces growing challenges in Bolivia, where the software industry demands highly trained professionals. The objective of this study is to evaluate the impact of incorporating competitive programming strategies in the teaching of programming modules in Computer Science programs, specifically in the Programming modules. A purposive sample of 60 students was selected. Observational records and semi-structured interviews were used to collect data. The results show that competitive programming in higher education improves motivation and strengthens logical reasoning skills, facilitating their preparation for national and international competitions such as the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC). It is concluded that integrating elements of Bolivian university programming competitions significantly contributes to improving the teaching-learning process and prepares future professionals for the challenges of the local and global technology market.
