The objective of this study was to analyze the influence of research competencies in higher education. For this purpose, a bibliographic review of information sources was developed to recognize the importance of research competencies in higher education, related to the skills, analysis, processing, information retrieval and research needed to improve teaching and learning. These skills correspond to the critical thinking needed to find new ways to explore direct and indirect sources to meet current needs; and the development of research competencies to build an attitudinal framework based on a commitment to research. Considering, that all the factors that influence research tasks within higher education are related to institutional strategies, resources, as well as commitment to educational guidance.
