The research analyzes the influence of the interpersonal skills of principals in educational management, considering their ability to understand, communicate and relate effectively with the school community. The objective is to analyze the perceptions of the directors of primary level educational institutions in Lambayeque regarding the categories: “soft skills” and “school management” with a qualitative approach of phenomenological type, semi-structured interviews were applied. The interviews were validated by a specialist to selected directors. The interpretation of the interviewees was analyzed through the Open Coding technique. The results show that the strengthening of soft skills such as empathy, assertive communication, leadership and conflict management is essential for managerial performance. It is concluded that ongoing education and training in these competencies is key to avoid vertical leadership and to foster a harmonious institutional climate, thus contributing to effective school management and quality education.
