The physical therapy student needs to be clear about the intervention based on the development of critical thinking, a rational conception to analyze, evaluate, infer, explain and self-regulate. The objective was to identify the level of critical thinking in students of the last years of a private university. The methodology was by means of quantitative, descriptive, non-experimental, cross-sectional design, in 189 students of the last 2 years, the Individual Generic Competences Questionnaire adapted for physiotherapists was applied, which measures the self-perception of critical thinking in health students and has 3 dimensions. As results, it was found that critical thinking is of medium level 60.6%; being predominant the dimension associated to the judgment of a specific situation with 52.7%. It was concluded that it reaches a medium level of critical thinking and the dimension associated with the judgment of a specific situation refers that it has the ability to use deductive and inductive strategies.
