OCAMPO-PIZARRO, Saúl Rafael et al. Influence of critical thinking on inferential comprehension of high school studentsInfluência do pensamento crítico na compreensão inferencial de alunos do ensino médio. Horizontes Rev. Inv. Cs. Edu. Critical thinking is fundamental for the development of inferential comprehension in high school students. This study analyzed the incidence of critical thinking in students' inferential comprehension, assessing three key dimensions: interpretation and analysis of information, judgment in specific situations with objective and subjective data, and inference of consequences based on self-regulated judgment. A correlational design with ordinal logistic regression was used to evaluate the data. The results indicated that critical thinking contributed 16.3% to the improvement in inferential understanding, with the dimensions analyzed explaining between 14.7% and 17.9% of the variability. These findings suggest that the development of critical thinking skills in the classroom significantly improves students' reading comprehension and cognitive competencies. The continued integration of critical thinking in secondary education favors students' academic achievement.
