VICENTE CUZCANO, Blanca Ruth. Critical thinking and student achievement in a Peruvian educational institution. Horizontes Rev. Inv. Cs. Edu. [online]. 2025, vol.9, n.38, pp.1591-1601. Epub 01-Abr-2025. ISSN 2616-7964. https://doi.org/10.33996/revistahorizontes.v9i38.1002.
Critical thinking is fundamental to face challenges in the educational environment. The aim of the study was to identify the influence of critical thinking on the academic performance of elementary school students. A quantitative and correlational design was adopted, applying a 10-item questionnaire to assess critical thinking and using vigesimal grades to measure academic performance. The sample consisted of 77 selected 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students. Analyses of variance were performed to compare differences by gender and by time of experience, in addition to linear regression models to examine the relationship between the dimensions evaluated. The results showed that, although the majority were at intermediate levels, significant differences were detected in managerial performance between genders and a slight trend with respect to experience. It is concluded that the strengthening of critical thinking positively influences academic performance, highlighting the importance of highly innovative pedagogical strategies.
