COLLANTES-ALCALDE, Juana Claribel; VIDAL-BENITES, Juana Margarita e CARCAUSTO-CALLA, Wilfredo Humberto. Challenges of leadership in early childhood education, a systematic review in South America. Horizontes Rev. Inv. Cs. Edu. [online]. 2025, vol.9, n.37, pp.1389-1407. Epub 24-Fev-2025. ISSN 2616-7964. https://doi.org/10.33996/revistahorizontes.v9i37.989.
Educational leaders are essential to inspire, motivate, and guide students and teachers towards continued academic success. The objective of this systematic review article was to analyze the current state of research related to the challenges and implications of leadership in early childhood education in South America. The methodology used was a qualitative systematic review in the Scopus, Web of Science, and SciELO databases, between 2023 and 2025. To structure the process, the updated PRISMA guide was used, considering 10 studies that met the inclusion criteria. The results highlight several key challenges: teacher training in technologies to improve learning; the inclusion of students with special needs due to inadequate implementation of policies; a comprehensive approach is required to manage disruptive behaviors and transform assessments towards a more sensitive model focused on the comprehensive development of children. It is concluded that leaders must prioritize these areas to strengthen educational quality and equity in the region.
