Mathematics learning contributes to the development of logical thinking, problem solving, and informed decision making. The objective of this article was to analyze the state of research related to the use of teaching strategies and teaching resources aimed at overcoming cognitive and conceptual difficulties that affect the development of mathematical skills in high school students. The methodology used was a qualitative systematic review in the Scopus, Web of Science, and SciELO databases, between 2017 and 2025. To structure the process, the updated PRISMA guide was used, considering 20 studies that met the inclusion criteria. The results highlight that active learning, contextualization, technology, gamification, and culturally responsive approaches are key to the development of mathematical skills in high school. It is concluded that these strategies minimize cognitive and conceptual difficulties and increase motivation, facilitate understanding, and promote critical citizenship and student collaboration.
