FERNANDEZ MARTINEZ, Clarisa Andrea e UCULMANA CABREJOS, Daniel Antonio. Effectiveness of reading comprehension strategies applied to university students: a systematic review. Horizontes Rev. Inv. Cs. Edu. [online]. 2025, vol.9, n.37, pp.1328-1347. Epub 24-Fev-2025. ISSN 2616-7964. https://doi.org/10.33996/revistahorizontes.v9i37.986.
Reading comprehension is crucial for academic success and the comprehensive development of students. Because of this, the present research aimed to analyze the effectiveness of reading comprehension strategies applied to university students. To do so, a qualitative systematic review of 34 studies published between 2020 and 2024 was conducted, based on the updated PRISMA guide. The studies explored various interventions, such as digital tools, Flipped Learning, gamification, constructivist approaches, and cognitive/metacognitive strategies. The results indicate that these strategies, in general, are effective in improving reading comprehension and foster skills such as critical analysis, autonomous and collaborative learning, and motivation. However, their success depends on factors such as teacher training, availability of resources, and management of resistance to change. It is concluded that, in their implementation, the specific needs of students and educational contexts must be taken into account.
