Reading comprehension is the ability to maintain an affective interaction between interlocutors allowing to analyze, interpret, question and reflect on a content. The objective of the present study was to identify the level of reading comprehension in the English course of higher education students. The work was developed through a basic type of research, with a quantitative approach, non-experimental design and descriptive level. The sample consisted of 121 students chosen by means of probabilistic sampling. The application instrument was subjected to validation by experts who determined the consistency, relevance and coherence of the test. Descriptive statistics were used for data processing. The results showed that most university students have a high level of reading comprehension at the literal level. Likewise, it was shown that women stand out notoriously in the results of the 3 levels of reading comprehension.
