Formative assessment is a key strategy to optimize learning processes by providing continuous feedback to students and teachers. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of formative assessment in improving learning through a systematic review. A search was conducted in indexed databases such as Scopus, Web of Science, SciELO and Google Scholar, covering the period 2017-2022 and using key terms related to the topic. The results indicate that formative assessment has a positive impact on learning, favoring self-regulation and student autonomy. It also allows teachers to restructure their pedagogical practices according to the students' needs. It is concluded that its effective implementation contributes significantly to the achievement of expected learning.
