Archaeological findings can become excellent didactic resources in the classroom. The objective was to evaluate the effectiveness of archaeological heritage as a didactic resource and the learning of social sciences. A systematic review was carried out using the Prisma method. Articles published in the databases Scopus, Scielo, Ebsco, ProQuest and the search engine Google Scholar were analyzed, using the search equation “Archaeological heritage OR archaeological remains AND Didactic resource OR didactic tool AND Teaching of social sciences OR Social sciences OR Social sciences”. Ten articles were selected because they met the inclusion criteria: works available in open access; in Spanish or English language and with significant contributions to the analysis and that responded to the formulated research questions. The research reviewed consistently coincides in declaring the potential of teaching archaeology as a means of acquiring knowledge about archaeological heritage and history.
